Thank you for taking the time to explore Mary’s memorial Nursing Foundation. I hope you are enjoying the content and are excited to see all the positive impacts we will be making in her spirit thanks to your generosity, support, involvement and enthusiasm!
It is only appropriate that I start out by acknowledging how extremely I miss my dear sister, Mary. As a former athlete, I can tell you I know all about nursing physical injuries and the challenges that are sometimes required to overcome them BUT with this unfortunate and unexpected major loss in my life.. emotional healing is another ball game!
Healing from grief is not linear as I’ve quickly come to find out, especially from a loss so major. If you’ve ever experienced loss, whether anticipated or unexpected, you may be able to relate the good days seem far outnumbered by the bad at first. Even though a little over two months have gone by since Mary passed, time at home seems to have stood still. Our home is unusually quiet without Mary’s contagious laughter bouncing off the walls or the sounds of her clinking and clattering around in the kitchen while attempting her luck at recreating trendy recipes she saw on Tik Tok. With the change of seasons and warmer weather coming, I find myself expecting there to be a change in reality too; unfortunately, that’s not how life goes. Instead of focusing on what I’ve lost, I find it most helpful to remember by merely knowing Mary what I gained; one of such lessons from her is the power & impact ONE person can have on so many.
Although Mary can no longer physically be here, it doesn’t mean her fine qualities of kindness, empathy, selflessness can no longer carry on. So together with my family, we organized the MMTrant Nursing Scholarship Fund, which became what is now the MMTrant Foundation, a recognized 501 c (3) non-profit. Though we primarily operate by providing financial educational grants to deserving local graduating seniors committed to nursing programs, we are also looking forward to helping beyond that. We would like to connect with people, make them feel loved & heard, and make them smile.. interpersonal skills Mary was especially great at and definitely what people need now more than ever! Whether we pop into local hospitals over the holidays or donate to our frontline heros, the possibilities in which the MMTrant foundation can help those in the medical world are endless!
Never in my wildest dream did I think I would ever preside over a Nursing non-profit organization … and while I’m being honest, nor write a blog, LOL. While I wish all of this had come under different circumstances, I am honored, humbled and focused to work alongside my sister Samantha, my parents and fellow Board Member Tracy Scolaro to continue helping others in medical settings, as Mary would have. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors for being so supportive of this cause, and to all the individuals and families who have generously donated & continue to follow the MMTrant Foundation. We look forward to gathering with all of you at future events, and hope you will feel as fulfilled as we do seeing the positive impacts the MMTrant foundation is designed to accomplish moving forward.
In the future, this blog space (along with the MMTrantfoundation facebook and instagram pages!) is where you can find all the latest updates, opportunities, and hear about GOOD NEWS/STORIES, as they unfold 🙂
With heartfelt gratitude for all your support,
