Thank you for taking the time to explore Mary’s legacy Nursing Foundation. I hope you are inspired by the profound positive impact we are making thanks to your generosity, support, involvement and shared enthusiasm!
It is only appropriate that I start out by acknowledging how extremely I miss my dear younger sister, Mary. As a former athlete, I know the road to recovering after physical injuries present, but with this unexpected major loss in my life.. I am quickly learning emotional healing can be another ball game!
Healing from grief is not linear as I’ve quickly come to find out. If you’ve ever experienced loss, whether anticipated or unexpected, you may be able to relate the good days seem far outnumbered by the bad at first. Even though a little over two months have gone by since Mary unexpectedly passed, time at home seems to have stood still. Our home is unusually quiet without Mary’s contagious laughter bouncing off the walls or the sounds of her clinking and clattering around in the kitchen while attempting her luck at recreating trendy recipes she saw lately on Tik Tok as we hunkered down amid the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic. With the change of seasons and warmer weather coming, I find myself expecting there to be a change in reality too. Unfortunately, as we have all at one point or another realized, that’s not how life unfortunately goes. Instead of focusing on what we’ve lost, I found it most helpful to remember that by merely knowing Mary what we, as friends, family or colleagues, we have gained. One such lesson from her is the powerful impact ONE person can have on so many.
While Mary can no longer physically carry out her earthly nursing skills, her fine qualities of kindness, empathy, selflessness can surely carry on. Together with family, friends and the community’s unbelievable support, we organized the Mary Margaret Trant Nursing Scholarship Fund Inc., which now operates as The MMTrant Foundation. We are a registered 501(c)(3) public non-profit nursing charity. Though at this time (2021), we primarily operate by providing financial educational scholarships to deserving local graduating seniors committed to accredited nursing programs, we are also looking forward to helping beyond this in time. Our goals are to make meaningful connections with nurse professionals and students; make them feel loved & heard, and make them smile.. interpersonal skills Mary was especially great at and definitely what people need now more than ever! Whether we pop into local hospitals over the holidays or donate care packages directly to our amazing frontline heroes, the possibilities in which The MMTrant Foundation can help those in the medical community are truly endless!
Never in my wildest dream did I think I would ever preside over a nursing non-profit organization. While I wish all of this had come about under different circumstances, I am honored and focused to work alongside my sister Samantha (Vice-President), my parents, Meg and Dan Trant (Board of Directors) and Tracy Scolaro (Board Member) to continue supporting others in the medical community, as I am sure Mary would have.
I wish to sincerely thank our wonderful sponsors for being so supportive of this cause and to all the individuals and families who have generously donated & continue to follow the MMTrant Foundation. We look forward to gathering with all of you at future nursing fundraisers and recognition events. We hope you will feel as fulfilled as we do seeing the positive impacts the MMTrant Foundation is designed to accomplish moving forward.
